<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>This chapter analyzes the risks and rewards of moving from an unfunded defined benefit pension system to a funded plan for civil servants in Germany, allowing for alternative portfolio mixes using a Monte Carlo framework and a Conditional Value at Risk metric. The authors identify an investment strategy for plan assets that will minimize worst-case pension costs; this turns out to be 22 percent in equities, 47 percent in bonds, and 31 percent in real estate. The authors show that moving toward a funded pension system for German civil servants can be beneficial to both taxpayers and civil servants.</jats:p>

<jats:p> To better understand the worth of high school publications experiences, this study examines minority high school journalism students as compared with non-journalism minority students. Using data gathered in ACT pre-college standardized tests and results of collegiate performance, researchers found that journalism minority students outperformed non-journalism minority students in twelve of fifteen major academic comparisons. For this study, 5,369 minority students were studied from a national database. Of those, 993 (18.5%) had served on the staff of a high school newspaper or yearbook. </jats:p>

Schools serve as a setting in which students come to understand gender, but transgender students (those who transgress
societal gender norms) are largely left out of discussions of education. The high level of harassment that transgender students face poses sizable obstacles to school success. If the field of education is committed to equity and social justice, then
teacher education programs must prepare educators to teach gender in more complex ways that take into consideration the
existence and needs of transgender people. This article is intended to begin the discussion of transgender issues in teacher
education by providing a rationale for why teacher educators need to care about transgender issues, presenting definitions
of basic terms and concepts related to gender and transgender, offering a new framework for understanding gender privilege
and oppression, and examining three previously proposed or existing types of gender education and proposing gendercomplex education as an alternative, and exploring possibilities for gender-complex teacher education.

Four studies examined the effects of nature on valuing intrinsic and extrinsic aspirations. Intrinsic aspirations reflected prosocial and other-focused value orientations, and extrinsic aspirations predicted self-focused value orientations.
Participants immersed in natural environments reported higher valuing of intrinsic aspirations and lower valuing of extrinsic aspirations, whereas those immersed in non-natural environments reported
increased valuing of extrinsic aspirations and no change
of intrinsic aspirations.
Three studies explored experiences of nature relatedness and autonomy as underlying mechanisms of these effects, showing that nature immer-
sion elicited these processes whereas non-nature immersion thwarted them and that they in turn predicted higher intrinsic and lower extrinsic aspirations.
Studies 3 and 4 also extended the paradigm by testing these effects on generous decision making indicative of valuing intrinsic versus extrinsic aspirations.
