Far UVC lamps: - kill 80-99% of infectious aerosols - are 40% more efficient than HEPA filtration - are rapidly becoming affordable For $500 you can buy a lamp that will kill the vast majority of airborne pathogens. The chance of covid or respiratory illnesses spreading in such a room is extremely low. And the costs should continue to come down over the next 3-5 years. Imagine: far UVC lamps in every classroom, office, library, subway car. It would halve the number of colds...and save hundreds of thousands of people per year. Controlling water-borne (e.g. dystentery), food-borne (e.g. salmonella) and vector-borne (e.g. malaria) diseases caused a huge jump in human survival between 1800 and now: - under-5 mortality fell from ~40% → ~4% - life expectancy rose from ~30 → ~72 Imagine what child mortality and life expectancy could look like in 2040 if we take air quality seriously!
